KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, Chairman of the Kelab RELA Kehormat & Bersekutu Wilayah Persekutuan, said the strength of an organisation should not be measured by the number of its members, titles or ranks, but by its unity, sincerity in service and meaningful contributions to society.

He said that as the club celebrates its 11th anniversary, it must continue strengthening its role as a platform that brings together members of different races, religions and professional backgrounds to fulfil their social responsibilities and serve communities in need.

“My principle is simple. We should not join RELA merely to hold a title or rank. We should strive to be members who carry responsibility, make meaningful contributions and bring value to society.

“The true strength of our club lies in the unity of its members, their willingness to support one another, and their readiness to step forward whenever the community needs assistance,” he said.

Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai was speaking at the 11th Anniversary Gala Dinner of Kelab RELA Kehormat & Bersekutu Wilayah Persekutuan, attended by senior RELA officials, community leaders, former national security chiefs, professionals, business representatives, media practitioners and club members.

Among the distinguished guests was RELA Malaysia Deputy Director-General Mahather bin Smoh, representing RELA Malaysia Director-General Datuk Rosli bin Yaakub.

Also present were the club’s Founder and Advisor, Datuk Seri Michael Chong; former Director-General of Health and Chairman of the National Heart Institute (IJN), Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah; former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain; and former Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mazlan Lazim.

Other guests included President of the Selangor Council of Justices of the Peace Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr Jason Goh Teck Chai; Executive Chairman of Halim Mazmin Group Tan Sri Halim Mohammad; Senior Vice-President of the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Dato’ Sri Dr King Lim Chin Fui; President of Majlis Datuk Persekutuan Malaysia (MDPM) Datuk Alvin Tee Guan Pian; and President of Majlis Dato’ Datuk Malaysia (MDDM) Datuk Shamson David Maman.

【Strengthening Cooperation with RELA Malaysia】
Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai said RELA represents discipline, responsibility and the spirit of volunteerism, and the club remains committed to strengthening cooperation with the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) to encourage greater participation in training, welfare initiatives and community service.

He said the club recently organised a RELA membership briefing and registration session with the support of RELA Operations Division Director Jimmy anak Jupiter Sambau and Force Development Division Director Md Shah Rizal.

The initiative aimed to provide members with a better understanding of RELA’s responsibilities, membership requirements and opportunities to serve the community.

“We want to build a closer and more structured relationship with RELA Malaysia. We also hope eligible members may be considered for nomination as Honorary or Associate RELA members, subject to the relevant requirements and approval of the authorities.

“More importantly, membership must be translated into meaningful participation in training, welfare activities and community service,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to RELA Deputy Director-General Mahather bin Smoh, Jimmy anak Jupiter Sambau, Md Shah Rizal and Nasharuddin for their continued support of the club.

【Honouring Healthcare Workers for Their Service During COVID-19】
During his speech, KK Chai also paid tribute to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and healthcare professionals across Malaysia for their leadership, dedication and sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the experience reminded everyone that health, friendship and the willingness to help one another are among life’s most valuable blessings.

He also expressed gratitude that the club’s Founder and Advisor, Datuk Seri Michael Chong, had recovered after suffering serious health complications following a COVID-19 infection in late 2020.

【Three Key Priorities for the Club’s Future】
Looking ahead, Datuk Seri Dr Chai outlined three key priorities to ensure the club remains relevant and continues making a meaningful contribution to society.
These include strengthening unity and friendship among members, expanding charitable and community service initiatives, and enhancing cooperation with RELA Malaysia and other relevant agencies.
He said the club’s diverse membership, comprising individuals from different ethnic, religious and professional backgrounds, should be seen as a strength.
Members should leverage their knowledge, experience and professional networks to support community programmes, enhance skills development and assist those in need.
“I want the public to recognise our club through our actions and contributions, rather than merely through official functions or the positions we hold. We must continue demonstrating that our presence brings real benefits to the community.
“Although we come from different backgrounds, we share one spirit, one purpose and one responsibility: to serve our communities and our nation,” he said.
Datuk Seri Dr Chai expressed hope that the 11th anniversary celebration would serve as a catalyst for greater member participation, closer ties with government agencies and more charitable and volunteer initiatives in the coming years.
“Eleven years have passed, but our journey is far from over. My hope is that the club will continue to grow into a united, respected and active organisation that is always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need,” he said.
